Part 2 Winners!

Since all the pictures were already here on one page, I’ll just announce them here. Having only 4 people submit entries, rather than having the Top 3 move on for the coloring contest, all the entries can be colored! On top of that, the vault points have been redistributed among the participants, so instead of getting 10 points, everyone gets 25! Your Part 2 Winners are:

First Place (100k + 25vp)
“Epilogue” by Morag D based on “Epilogue” by Tzu (+10k to Tzu)

This is just perfect. Great work and I know this will be fun to color. Your style of line art goes into alot of detail, but the lines themselves are very trusting. They are just lines, they don’t try to explain anything but the shape of things. It is a great scene, we know exactly where this is taking place and the characters are recognizable instantly.

Second Place (75k + 25vp)
“The Choice” by Tzu, based on “The Raven’s Egg” by Aquabeard (+10k to Aquabeard)

Lots of work went into that armor! Wow! This story was a little tougher to illustrate, I think, because there was a huge cast of characters that were not available for reference. But you have illustrated the theme of the story and Grim’s decision very well. Every now and then we come to these decisions where choosing isn’t the difficult part, but living with the choice is. Grim would have saved Roan no matter what, but the cost of it would always be with him. I love seeing everyone’s charr cub designs, and I have to say it would be easy to save a sweet face like that, and makes it even harder to believe it’s the face of a killer.

Third Place (50k + 25vp)
by Luca, based on “Reflection” by Peter Gallant (+10k to Peter Gallant)

Well, it is the face of a killer, but he can’t help it. Look at his role model. Last day of the contest, I didn’t think anyone was going to try this story. There were several scenes that would have been fun to illustrate, but none of them really express the essence of this story quite like the revelation in the tent. I like this because it is an honest sketch in every sense.

Fourth Place (25k +25vp)
By William Koshi, based on “Epilogue” by Tzu (+10k to Tzu)

Koshi has fun with big projects. Long stories and flashy portraits, all very quickly too. This was the first entry to the contest, it had no colors and technically could be colored by someone else. By most people’s standards it isn’t a “sketch” but if I were to sketch something with pencil, I might go into as much detail with shading. This just happened to be the digital version of that. It’s a great picture and would be a nice cover illustration. And talk about a cute baby charr!

So to tally up all the prizes earned in this round:
Morag D: 100k + 25vp
Tzu: 95k + 25vp (75+10*+10*)
Luca: 50k + 25vp
Koshi: 25k + 25vp
Aquabeard: 10k*
Peter Gallant: 10k*

And since all the stories were used by the Top 3(4) in this round, Aquabeard, Peter Gallant, and Tzu are all still eligible for the bonus.

“Your task…is to select a scene from one of these stories to illustrate (sketch or line art only).”

The top two totally aren’t sketch or line drawings. >_>; huh?

Technically, no, but after several weeks of the contest with no other entries (the greyscale of “Epilogue” being the first entry) I decided to take what I could get and allowed greyscale. I didn’t really mean for these to be big projects. 10 minute sketches were totally acceptable and that’s why I didn’t give a later deadline. That last picture was really the most I was hoping for to begin with. They’re really hard to judge. Not exactly scenes or murals, more cover illustrations, if I were to look only at this part of the contest. And if I look at how they tie into the rest of the contest, they’d be pretty difficult to color. They’re great pictures, I just don’t know what to do. After having told the artist that greyscale was okay, I blame myself.

Hmmm, yeah, as Max points out it is sort of a problem. I mean, the pictures are alright, but I don’t know that it’s fair to the other artists when those (appear to be) traced/copied and aren’t created with the same standards in mind. It’s a very different task entirely, and the others might have done different looking pieces if they were doing greyscale.

I see what you mean about the pictures being sort of thematically different too. The others are all scenes or murals, and the two top ones are drastically different in style and composition. Definitely hard to judge.

Yeah, I was kind of expecting more entries than this, really. Maybe for the coloring contest–I know I’m entering that one, though I don’t think I’ll won–and I’m pretty sure Luned will be entering that one too.

Sorry, I don’t think I really have any useful suggestions though. ^^; They’re all cool drawings though. I was just sad that more weren’t done.

I believe that Max’s comment is correct, the last two are more contest based. I did those 2 for fun, and nothing else :). However, don’t get me wrong I still want at least one to be counted, but like others stated it is not technically a “sketch”. Personally, I always ‘sketch’ like that. Both of the pictures are not actually finished. Lol appears to be traced rofl 🙂 However, it depends on the person view of what a sketch is. Moreover, I hope that the other drawings will get the credit and prestige they deserve! Good job everyone. I was wishing to see more, but it’s the summer, what do you expect 🙂 Grim if you think it’s too much of a bother to judge, then please by all means remove the two. It will make things much easier. Good luck all!

Since there weren’t many entries in this part of the contest, I have something a little different in mind 😉 But you’ll all have to wait until Friday to find out what that is :O
